Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football and community service. The first is the Selmon familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the US. The three years he was a starter Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and won two national championships. Third scholarship he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Fourth year of the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. Additionally, he started his career in the field of business. In 1988, he worked as an Account Relation Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no surprise that Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the 10 most notable young people in America. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265lbs in the time he played football at college. In 1975, he led the squad. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as the assistant director of sports. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Jr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
