Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the United States. She's worked as media critic since. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in the popular media. As well as working to highlight the problems surrounding the targeted and sexist attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with popular culture. Sarkeesian has a degree in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements since a early age. In 2009, when she was in university, she created the Feminist Frequency site. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s who wanted to create a series of web videos which would explore how gender is represented in games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. However the attack could not deter her instead it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. She has won numerous awards for her numerous significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women within pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
